Iraqi forces inch forward closer to the old city of Mosul

March 25, 2017, West Mosul, Northern Iraq. A tank is being brought forward to assist in the advance. Iraqi Special Forces are pushing deeper into ISIS territory, edging on the old town, the last bastion still held by ISIS diehards. Sniper fire, RPG and regular mortar strikes have been targeting Iraqi units pushing forward making any advance risky and slow. US planes are often called in to bomb ISIS defensive positions before the Iraqi infantry can move forward in the narrow streets of the center of Mosul. (Jonathan Alpeyrie/SIPA)
