The Mountain People Time Forgot.
This noble and beautiful tribe of people are now struggling for survival against the Muslim Khartoum goverment. Every dry season the military goverments troops press further and further into the tribes traditional territories, burning villiages and crops and killing whole communties. No one knows how many hundreds of thousands of tribes people have died from fighting, or ensuing diease and famine.
In an attempt to crush the Nuba culture, the Sudanese goverment has also banned many social events that are the backbone of Nuba life, such as traditional scarification and stick fighting and wrestling bouts. So far the tribes people have resisted these onslaughts onto their way of life but their ramschackle band of warriors, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) are fighting a losing battle against a formidable army.
